Description

My 2011 art summary meme.

1. [link] This was back before I had a scanner, and I hadn't really been working too hard to improve my artistic abilities, so it's not incredible, but it was the best from January.

2. [link] I had gotten a scanner by the beginning of February, so the quality of the image is better now. I really enjoy working with oil pastels, and some of my favorite pieces were oil pastels, but I don't use them a whole lot. This turned out nicely, though. Mysti had just appeared as a character in my sketchbook in late January.

3. [link] Despite the several mistakes I made on this one and the fact that I don't even ship the couple depicted, I really like it.

4. [link] It may not be my best one artistically for the month, but it was one of my first comics, and it got quite a bit of attention for a while there.

5. [link] This is the first of three showcased pictures that were ones I only colored. I tried to make sure that I picked mostly pictures that were entirely my own work, but I'm much better at coloring than drawing, and for a few, I wanted to pick pieces that had lineart nice enough to not distract from that. That said, credit goes to ~Nareios for the lineart, the link to which can be found in the description for my colored version. Mysti again.

6. [link] Another oil pastel work. At this point in life, I had recently seen Big River at our local theater, and the performance was absolutely incredible (I cried during "Leaving's Not the Only Way to Go"). I had also just reread "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn," and simply couldn't resist drawing dear Huck.

7. [link] Another coloring of a lineart, this time by ~Chuck-addicted. It was his artwork that got me started on Homestuck, which I'm pretty okay with. This one remains one of the most ambitious colorings I have ever undertaken, and one of my all-time personal favorites.

8. [link] I had so much fun with this one. I still think an "Oh! My Goddess"/"Legend of Zelda" crossover would be simply fantastic.

9. [link] This was for an art trade group I'm in, #Tradestation. The character belongs to ~Wildeye. I'm proud of it because it's a decent looking male, he has facial hair, and ooh, a cigarette!

10. [link] The third and final colored lineart, by *ink-pot. This one involved some of my best shading work ever, and I decided to change the line colors to match their sections, so it turned out having a nice soft feel to it.

11. [link] This is a rare example of an all-digital piece from me. I don't have a tablet, so it was all by trackpad, and it took longer than most pieces, but turned out nicely. I saw "How To Train Your Dragon" for the first time over my Thanksgiving break and promptly fell in love with it. I cried the first time I watched it, and almost cried the second time (not to mention when I saw "The Gift of the Night Fury"). I absolutely love the lines on this one, and I'm pretty happy with the colors too, although Hiccup didn't turn out great on either count.

12. [link] My last deviation of the year! Jade turned out great overall, although her torso looks a bit odd to me. I was especially happy with fingers in this one.

Looking back through the year, I can really see that I've progressed. It makes me wonder how good I can get in 2012! Thanks to everyone who's been here with me this year!

Cool to see the changes over time! Also, what's a trackpad?
