Art Summary 2013

Once again, only using dA-uploaded pictures, and the dates supplied for upload time.

1. fav.me/d5q9nb3 This was the only picture I uploaded in January. I had that problem a lot this year. My OC's, Aura and Grey, in a redraw from a previous 5-minute doodle.

2. fav.me/d5ujq15 In late January/early February, my tablet stopped working correctly for quite a while, so there's a couple months in here where all my art was traditional.

3. fav.me/d5xout8 A self-portrait uploaded on my birthday. I can't remember if my tablet was working again or if I just did this by trackpad.

4. fav.me/d62swta Here's where we first see me trying out a more painterly style, but before I really had any idea what I was doing. It still turned out pretty decent, though.

5. fav.me/d64skoz This is the one I'd deem my breakthrough piece of 2013. I'd found a tutorial on digital painting by Laitma, and it suddenly made painting make sense to me. Digital paintings are now what I'd call my dominant style, and this is the first one where I really felt like I knew what I was doing, and was confident in it.

6. fav.me/d68xpab At this point I was still going nuts with my newfound painting skill and trying to find my niche in it all.

7. fav.me/d6crzh9 I didn't have a huge amount of time this summer due to working at camp, and so most of my energy went into the annual camp staff drawing.

8. fav.me/d6crzh9 Pretty sure this was another case of barely drawing anything all month.

9. fav.me/d6oiwqi One of the first digital pictures I've felt pleased with enough to print it off and hang it on my wall. The colors I think are my favorite part about this one.

10. fav.me/d6qmalw This one also got printed for my wall. The fact that I was able to make rain that looked like rain was my crowning moment in this one.

11. fav.me/d6waznk I don't really have a whole lot to say about this one. I've got it set as my phone background, and because of the way it cropped, it looks greatly like a photo booth picture.

12. fav.me/d6ztxkm I debated over whether to use this one or my other upload from December, which I would probably say technically looks better, but chose this one because the other is a coloring book paintover and this one is entirely my own.

Two biggest developments for me artistically this year: the development of my digital painting ability, and a consistent manner of drawing bodies (which was toyed with as early as February/March but didn't quite cement itself until July/August, and isn't really visible here). I also finally was able to do a watercolor painting that didn't make me cringe at the final result.

I feel like compared to 2012, in 2013 I made a great deal more progress and improvement. I'm also rather pleased with the fact that only half of the pictures for this year were fan art (with four remaining being OC's and two being real-life people) as compared to nine last year.
