Description

My character reference for the "character" I plan to use in :iconanachronismoct: He is known only as The Somerton Man, and all the fun historical stuffs can be found here: [link]

Occupation: The Somerton Man is a skilled spy. He uses his otherworldly abilities to gather intelligence swiftly and secretly.

Personality: Quiet, reserved, stoic. People do not typically notice him unless he wants them to.

Motive: The Somerton Man gathered intelligence on Hitler's regime during WWII. His experiences have instilled in him a deep-seated hatred for Hitler's ways, and he is more than happy to help in defeating him a second time. Furthermore, if Hitler were to win WWII, it would be more likely that The Somerton Man would be caught, and therefore his life depends on stopping Hitler again.

Abilities:</u>
Spellbound- Always carrying a rare first-edition copy of Edward FitzGerald's translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, TSM is able to use the poems' mystical powers to his advantage. By cutting words out of the book with his modified table knife, these words come to be truth when he needs them. Upon completion of the spell, the words will reinsert themselves in the book, and cannot be used for a short while (The time varies due to the involvement of time travel, and can last anywhere from ten minutes to two days.) Other spells in the book can still be used, however.
Code Talker- TSM is a master of encoding and decoding information. Codes he creates are rarely cracked without prior knowledge, and very few codes can hold up under his scrutinizing eye.
Chameleon- TSM's nondescript appearance and stoic silence allow him to blend in almost anywhere- or anywhen.
Stolen Identity- When merely blending in is not enough, TSM can literally become someone else. By using his modified knife to quietly cut the clothing label out of another's article of clothing and inserting the label into his own coat, he can assume their appearance, voice, and mannerisms for a short while (as with his spell cooldown, the time varies when not in his own time period. It can last from ten minutes to one hour.)

Weaknesses:</u>
~His life force is tied to the copy of The Rubaiyat. This is what allows him to use its words as spells, but also means that long distance separation from the book weakens him, and certain spells can kill him.
~When the effects of "Stolen Identity" wear off and he returns to his normal appearance, he loses some to all muscle control in his right arm for the same amount of time as the spell lasted, forcing him to use his non-dominant left hand. As such, he uses the ability less than some might expect him to.
~Due to his typical habits of hiding from others and his ability to use his spells in most cases, TSM is not good at close combat.
~He is also extremely susceptible to cold climates.

Time Travel:
In order to time travel, TSM merely carves the date and location into the back cover of The Rubaiyat. He then will appear in that time and place with the book fully restored. Like his other Rubaiyat spells, however, there is a cool-down period between uses.

<NOTE: As The Somerton Man is a spy and his identity must remain uncompromised, nobody is sure what his real name is. Gandhi dubs him The Somerton Man when summoning him to fight Hitler, as this is what he will come to be known as after death. (Heck, Gandhi's time travelling. Who says he can't take some time to Google his time warriors before recruiting them?)>

Can't wait for the OCT! It'll be my first, and I probably won't last long at all, but what the heck!
