Okay, don't get me wrong. I think it's nice to comment when you fave something. But if I don't have anything to say other than "nice" or "cute" or "good job" or the like, I'm not going to comment. I hate having a feedback notification and just getting a two word comment (even though I love getting the comment, I'm always hoping for more, you know?) and I don't particularly want to waste someone else's time giving them that kind of comment.
So when I see those "Comment before you fave!" icons on art, a lot of times I just go on my way without commenting or faving. If I actually have something to say, I'll comment and fave, but if all I want to say is a one word comment, I'll just move on, because faving it without a comment would be going against the artist's wishes. Gosh, I'm passive aggressive sometimes.
Please, let's not get super upset in the comments, all right? I respect rational, level-headed discussion, but not people being upset. As a person who avoids confrontation, if the comments get too nasty I'll disable them. Thanks!
While I don't support a forced 'comment before you fave' idea, I'd rather people spend some time to actually think why they're faving something, and share it with the artist. He/she might actually find that aspect embarrassing, or perhaps they spent the longest amount of time working on that bit. You'll never know if you don't comment, and the artist will never know about why you faved. Besides, comments open up communications better than faves. [link]

the whole comment before you fav thing makes me so angry for a ton of reasons
